Nigeria has joined a small group of nations including Qatar, South Africa, Malaysia and Australia that operate hi-tech Gas to Liquid ( GTL ) plants, as the Chevron owned Escravos GTL has produced its first liquids, after being behind schedule for several years. The plant would allow Nigeria to perform a leading role in an advanced sector of the energy and fuel market. “We recently achieved a major milestone at our Escravos gas to liquids plant with the production of GTL diesel and naphtha. Abeokuta man hangs himself after his lover abandons him taking off with his cash

POLICE in Ogun State are investigating the suicide of a middle aged man who hanged himself after being defrauded by his lover who took off after fleecing him of millions of naira. According to the police, the man identified as Samsideen Akinwunmi, committed suicide in Abeokuta after being duped by his concubine. Mr Akinwunmi, a carpenter, was said to have been found dead after allegedly hanging himself on a ceiling fan in his room on Aboaba Street, Itori-Odo in Abeokuta. Neighbours said that they saw Mr Akinwunmi at about 2.45 pm on Saturday when he sent all his children on errands before killing himself. Before hanging himself, the deceased left a suicide note, explaining why he took his own life. He indicated that his estranged lover had duped him of millions of naira and that he had to kill himself. BREAKING: Nigeria Successfully Blocks Ebola, Has One Case Left- minister

Nigeria has successfully reduced the number of Ebola cases in the country to one, the Minister of Health, Onyebuchi Chukwu, has said. As of Tuesday, only one Ebola patient remained in isolation in Nigeria, down from the 13 cases the country confirmed since the outbreak of the virus in July, Mr. Chukwu said at a press conference. The deadly virus was first brought to Nigeria 38 days ago by a Liberian-American man, Patrick Sawyer. Mr. Sawyer later died, but after health workers who treated him had contracted the virus. Mr. Chukwu said so far Nigeria has had 13 cases including the index case. Five of those infected died, while seven have successfully recovered and were discharged. Two of the nurses who managed Mr. Sawyer were discharged Monday at the isolation centre in Lago, Mr. Chukwu said. He said Nigeria has been able to curtail Ebola in the country. The United States of America on Thursday in Abuja donated High-tech bomb detector robots to the Nigeria Police Force. In a statement, the Force Public Relations Officer, Frank Mba, said the U.S. Ambassador, James Entwistle, while visiting the Acting Inspector General of Police, Suleiman Abba, presented the robots. Mr. Mba said the ambassador congratulated the police chief on his appointment and said the U.S. will continue to render relevant supports to the Force in the areas of training and security cooperation. Mr. Mba said Mr. Entwistle thanked Mr. Abba for the high level of cooperation between the Nigerian Police and the U.S. Embassy in Nigeria. 19 year old rapes chicken to death in Ondo State

A 19 year old welder apprentice was caught yesterday August 19th after having sex with a chicken at the Continental area of Akure, the Ondo state capital. According to reports by Vanguard, the boy was discovered to have committed the act after the owner of the chicken, Mrs Stella Akintola, who is the boy’s neighbor and reared chickens in the compound, heard her chickens making noise inside their pen and decided to go and find out why they were restless. When she got to her hen pen, the young man surfaced from a corner and said he had stomach upset and was on his way out of the compound toilet. Mrs Akintola not suspecting anything then moved to use the compound toilet where she discovered one of her chickens lying dead in the toilet. Crude Oil Production Averaged 2 . 26 Million bpd in Q 1 2014

Despite the Government’s often-touted intention to increase production to 4 million barrels per day, Nigeria’s crude oil output in Q1 of 2014 recorded a drop in production over the corresponding period in 2013, according to the National Bureau of Statistics. Production in Q1 of 2014 was 2.26 million barrels per day (bpd) a drop of 30,000 barrels compared to the 2.29 million bpd it achieved in the same period in 2013. The picture has improved from the end of last year, however, when production had dropped to 1.87 million bpd. As a result, the Bureau said, the growth rate of real GDP was recorded at 6.21% in Q1 2014, higher than 4.45% recorded in the corresponding quarter of 2013.

Nigerian Medical Doctor Survives Ebola, Discharged From Treatment Center In Lagos

A Nigerian medical doctor who contracted deadly Ebola virus from Liberian-American Patrick Sawyer during initial treatment of the Liberian has been discharged from the Center for Infectious Disease Control at Yaba Lagos after recovering from the disease. Dr. Stella Ameyo Adadevoh was hospitalized after showing symptoms of Ebola infection few days after Mr. Sawyer died at her hospital in Lagos. Dr. Adadevoh was endocrinologist at the First Consultant Hospital in Lagos who treated Mr. Sawyerbas he was rushed from the airport in Lagos to her hospital. Dr. Adadevoh plight had led to a petition by colleagues and well-wishers urging President Barack Obama to release Zmapp for her treatment. Dr. Adadevoh (Nee Cardoso) was discharged from the hospital yesterday after fully recovering from the disease according to doctors at the facility.

Between 2003 and 2007, Mallam Ribadu, 53, served as EFCC chairman, during which he enjoyed a lot of success combating corruption in Nigeria. Moves by the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) and the National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) to pressurize the federal government to withdraw the circular suspending residency training programme have crumbled as officials at the Federal Ministry of Health were adamant on reversing the suspension. The suspension of the residency training programme indirectly means the sack of about 16 000 medical doctors, leaving behind 3000 medical consultants and higher ranking medical personnel to cater for medical services around the country. The government also lampooned the medical doctors for embarking on protest and demonstration in Abuja, calling their actions as hypocritical. Lecturer Who Criticizes Kaduna Governor Files Lawsuit Over Termination of His Appointment

In a letter dated June 20, 2014, the Kaduna State Executive council had accused Mr. Danfulani, who holds a PhD, of using social media to denigrate Governor Yero who also doubles as the University Visitor. In the letter, the council informed the lecturer that it could not tolerate his criticism of Mr. Yero, describing the act as a breach of the university’s condition of service and section 20: 4 of the institution’s law. In a counter move, Mr. Danfulani filed a lawsuit against the university at the National Judicial Court. His lawsuit seeks a perpetual injunction restraining the university council from taking any measure against him. His Excellency, President Goodluck Jonathan, has ordered the sack of all resident doctors in Nigerian hospitals. The sack was contained in a directive by Mr. Jonathan to the Federal Ministry of Health to suspend all residency training programme for Nigerian doctors. The directive was stated in an internal memo dated August 13 and signed by the Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Health, L.N. Awute, to federal hospitals. Mr. Awute said the president’s directive was given following an appraisal of the challenges facing the health sector. “Mr. President, Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, GCFR has suspended the Residency Training Programme for Doctors in Nigeria indefinitely for the purposes of appraising the challenges facing the health sector,” Mr. Awute said. He said the Minister of Health, Onyebuchi Chukwu, has also directed that “letters of termination of residency training” be issued to all affected resident doctors in hospitals immediately.
