Unprecedented Exposure To Ridicule and Disgrace of The Nigerian Judiciary - Rt. Hon. Justice Egbulefu Promise
The Judicial landscape of the Nigerian Nation has been grossly bastardized. What is sauce for the goose is not sauce for the gander.
Nigeria’s Supreme Court once crowned Rotimi Amaechi governor of Rivers State without contesting election, but refused to crown Danladi Baido and late Usman Albishir governors of Taraba and Yobe States respectively despite having the same case as Amaechi.
What has changed in the Nigerian constitution after the Amaechi case?
As if this unconstitutional, unscrupulous, and massively discriminatory ruling is not enough, The Court of Appeal have concluded arrangements to commence accelerated hearing of the pending case of tenure duration of Governor Rotimi Amaechi as a result of contentions over the commencement date of his first term.
The court is expected to determine whether or not the oath sworn to by Sir Celestine Omehia signalled the commencement date of Amaechi's term in office or it was that which was sworn to by Gov. Rotimi Amaechi 5 months later. Should the court determine that the commencement date of Governor Amaechi's term in office began when he swore to an oath himself, the Court will likely order for a fresh election in which he would be entitled to run for another 2nd term in office.
As the judicial-abracadabra continues, one thing that remains certain is that justice administration in the country is currently on trial.
I think the best way to stop this judicial chronic impunity is for Nigerians to adopt Shehu Jaha’s logic, and one day, certain Nigerian will make a judge see lightning in the courtroom!
God Bless The Federal Republic of Nigeria.
