Bonga Northwest Deepwater Offshore Development: A Major Boom for Nigeria's Oil and Gas Industry
With the current boom being recorded from the very first well at the Bonga North West deep-water Offshore development, Nigeria’s crude oil production is expected to rise by 40,000 barrels per day.
This translates to a crude earnings of N672 million accruable to the country on a daily basis.
The landmark Deepwater project is operated by the Shell Nigeria Exploration and Production Company Limited, (SNEPCo) in partnership with the TOTAL Exploration and Production Nigeria Limited (TEPNG). Other multinationals in the Joint Venture Project include: the Esso Exploration and Production Nigeria Limited and the Nigerian Agip Exploration (NAE) under a Production Sharing Contract with
the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC).
Oil and gas production began in the Bonga field in the year 2005, Nigeria’s first deep water development in water depths of over 1,000 metres.
The Bonga North West project is believed to be the long-standing commitment of the oil giants to developing deep-water Petroleum Geosciences and engineering skills in Nigeria.
Investments made in the Bonga North West project include upgrade of local contractors facilities and providing specialised training for Nigerians to work in the energy industry.
