FTYD Adopts President Johnathan for 2015 Presidential Election


The Foundation for Transformation and Youth Development - (FTYD) in it's National Executive Council Meeting held yesterday in Porthacourt, the River State Capital, adopted President Goodluck Ebele Johnathan as it's flag bearer for the 2015 Presidential election.

Briefing newsmen, The spokesperson of the body, Miss Thelma Uzondu said: "Yes, I will not join issues on that. There is no going back with our support for His Excellency. Perhaps the reward for good work is more work. After due consideration, we came to the conclusion that it was apt and apposite to consolidate our support for Mr. President's Transformation Agenda by endorsing his candidature for reelection in 2015".

The foundation also resolved to mount a national campaign aimed at ensuring that President Johnathan when reelected would expedite actions to transfer key appointments in his Government to the youths in the country. A committee that would galvanize this project was also created and assigned to Comrade Somadina of the Faculty of Engineering, University of Benin, Edo State.

The Foundation for Transformation and Youth Development (FTYD) is a non-profit, non governmental organization (NGO) founded in September 2014. The Foundation's National Executive Council (NEC) is currently under the Chairmanship of it's founder, Comrade Egbulefu Promise Chibueze.

Man Receives 20 Lashes For Practicing Homosexuality in Bauchi

A Nigerian man has received 20 lashes after an Islamic court in the northern city of Bauchi convicted him of homosexual offences. Under Islamic law, courts can punish homosexual acts by stoning to death. But the judge said he took into account that the Muslim man, Mubarak Ibrahim, 20, carried out the acts seven years ago, and had stopped the practice. In Nigeria, homosexual acts are illegal under both Islamic and secular law and restrictions have been tightened. Earlier this month, President Goodluck Jonathan signed into law a bill which bans same-sex marriages, gay groups and shows of same-sex public affection. The new legislation applies throughout Nigeria. Most states in the predominantly Muslim north of Nigeria have adopted Islamic law, known as Sharia, since the end of military rule in 1999.
