Governor Adams Oshomole Gives Child Hawker N1million Naira

The Edo state Governor, Adams Oshiomhole has  emblematically turned to an ardent 'philanthropist'.

PremiumReporters, on Tuesday, noted that the Governor gave out a cheque to a child hawker at New Benin by Total filling station in Benin City.

The Governor and his entourage were passing by and as usual, he was on foot ,while his cars were on the move, on spotting him, Children hawkers fled with their wares. However, a little girl hawking Plantain chips stood still and greeted the governor instead of joining others
to escape.

The Governor who was shocked by the girl's boldness brought out his pen and wrote her a cheque of one million naira.

The excited little girl threw her goods (plantain chips) away and thanked the governor before running home.

Man Receives 20 Lashes For Practicing Homosexuality in Bauchi

A Nigerian man has received 20 lashes after an Islamic court in the northern city of Bauchi convicted him of homosexual offences. Under Islamic law, courts can punish homosexual acts by stoning to death. But the judge said he took into account that the Muslim man, Mubarak Ibrahim, 20, carried out the acts seven years ago, and had stopped the practice. In Nigeria, homosexual acts are illegal under both Islamic and secular law and restrictions have been tightened. Earlier this month, President Goodluck Jonathan signed into law a bill which bans same-sex marriages, gay groups and shows of same-sex public affection. The new legislation applies throughout Nigeria. Most states in the predominantly Muslim north of Nigeria have adopted Islamic law, known as Sharia, since the end of military rule in 1999.
